"The Big Leap" in the contests of the 53rd Krakow Film Festival

The Big Leap - ph. Robert Pałka"The Big Leap", a Polish-Swedish co-production, qualified for two contests of the 53rd Krakow Film Festival. The festival has been officially recognized by FIAPF (the International Federation of Film Producers Association), EFA (European Film Award) and by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The festival winners receive direct nominations to the European Film Academy awards, as well as the Oscars (in the short film categories). The 53rd edition of the KFF will take place between May 26th and June 2nd, 2013, in Krakow.

"The Big Leap" first qualified for the Polish contest, in which short fiction films, documentaries, and animated films (up to 30 minutes in length) compete for awards.  From among the films entered into the contest, the selection committee has chosen titles which shall compete in international contests.  “The Big Leap” has already attained its first victory, as it has been selected from the Polish contest pool and qualified for the international short film contest.

The black comedy produced by Prasa i Film shall compete for the Golden Dragon award for best film director and the Silver Dragon award for best fiction film director in the international short film competition, as well as the Golden Lajkonik for best film director and Silver Lajkonik for best fiction film director in the Polish competition.

The films selected to take part in competitions are automatically included into the digital video library of the Krakow Film Festival, so "The Big Leap" will also be made available to the attendees of the Krakow Film Market which takes place during the festival.

The Krakow Film Festival, established in 1961, is one of the oldest events In Europe dedicated to documentaries, animated films and short fiction films. During the 8 days of the festival, viewers have the opportunity to see about 250 films from Poland and from all parts of the world. These are presented in the contest sections and during special screenings, such as retrospectives of works of individual artists, themed presentations, historic films. The festival is accompanied by exhibitions, concerts, open air events and meetings with the artists. Each year, the Krakow Film Festival is attended by about 600 guests from Poland and abroad: directors, producers, festival organizers and numerous film lovers.
