A documentary about the film set designer Tadeusz Wybult. The film makers present him at work, showing places that were of particular significance to him – his home city of Lvov, Wroclaw, where he studied at the University of Technology, the empty sound stages in Warsaw and Lodz, in which his film sets stood.
His friends and co-workers speak about the artist and his work – directors, operators and film set designers: Andrzej Wajda, Stanisław Różewicz, Jerzy Kawalerowicz, Krzysztof Zanussi, Antoni Krauze, Witold Sobociński, Allan Starski. The analyzed movie fragments, including „Mother Joan of the Angels”, „Birth Certificate”, „Ryś”, „Family Life”, „The Structure of Crystal” or „The Wedding”, show how this outstanding film set designer uses objects and landscapes, depth of perspective and the foreground, darkness and light, scenery and people, to create a unique , distinguishable film space which possesses its own personality, visage, and fate.
